Clerkenwell Design Week 2012

It seems that even though it hasn’t been running for that long, the annual Clerkenwell Design Week held in London is becoming more and more established within the design circles. This year is Clerkenwell’s third year of hosting the design week and the festival that is held over three days has ever increasing roster of new and emerging designers as well as the more established ones, talks and parties, new installations and venues.

We along with many others managed to visit the design week this year and were excited to see what there was to offer. There was a huge range of products being showcased this year from office furniture and café furniture to lighting and interiors. As a company, we sell office and café furniture and were understandably, particularly interested in new ranges within these sectors. Having visited the various manufacturers and suppliers of office furniture that had exhibitions in Clerkenwell we thought that we would share some of the products that are on offer.

BuzziSpace have managed create acoustic solutions that are not only attractive in design, but are also extremely eco-friendly. Made using up cycling methods to create their fabrics, the fabric was originally plastic bottles and is shredded to create a felt that has acoustic properties.

Using this material, Buzzispace have used this to create screens, wall pads, lampshades and meeting hubs. Pictured below are some examples of these.

The flux chair was another interesting design that we feel is worth a mention. Constructed from just a thin sheet of plastic, these chairs can be folded flat for easy removal and carrying. Also when the chair has been put together, it can hold a weight of up to 25 stone.

We have created a short video of some of the other office furniture ranges that are new to 2012 and also capture some of the atmosphere around the festival for all of those that missed it.
