Ergonomic is the most commonly used word in the office furniture industry at the moment. There is a reason for this and it is down to the fact that there are an ever increasing number of people with work related injuries that are directly affected by the office chair that they are sitting in. The main reason for this is that more and more people are working 8 hours or more in the office and spending long periods of time sitting in their chair, often in the wrong position. This can be a major problem because it is estimated that in 2008/09 9.3 million days were lost through MSDs (musculoskeletal disorders) and the numbers are set to rise.
There is a chair new to the market that is predicted to set the standard of ergonomic chairs and that is the Agitus Task Chair. Ergonomic chairs at the moment are focused on the lower back region and pelvic region. The current theory is that by creating a healthy posture at the base and lower part of your back, the rest of the back will be in the correct position also and the top of the back of the chair is usually aesthetically focused. The Agitus chair is unique however as not only does the chair provide lumbar and pelvic support, but it actually also focuses on supporting the thoracic region of the spine, which is located above the lumbar region.
Human beings are not designed to sit all day. We are actually designed to move as when we sit and remain in a fixed position we stop pour body from supplying nutrients the areas that need it including the spine that doesn’t have an independent circulatory supply. The Agitus not only supports the body but promotes movement by moving whilst supporting you in order help make sure that the risk of musculoskeletal or any other disorders is at a minimum.
